Houston Texans vs New York Jets 12/15/18 NFL Odds, Preview and Prediction

The Houston Texans go Northeast when they take on the New York Jets on Saturday at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

The Texans saw their nine game winning streak end at the hands of the Indianapolis Colts last week while the Jets had their six game losing streak end with  victory over the Buffalo BIlls.

Beaten By The Colts

Houston’s string of nine straight wins came to and end after Colts quarterback Andrew Luck threw for 399 yards and two touchdowns to lead Indianapolis to a 24-21 victory over Houston. Ty Hilton had nine catches for a total of 199 yards to lead the Indianapolis receivers. Despite the loss, the Texans still lead the AFC South by two games with only three weeks left to play in the regular season.

DeShaun Watson has thrown for a total of 3,298 yards with 22 touchdowns and nine interceptions on the season. Lamar Miller has rushed for 909 yards with 4 rushing touchdowns while DeAndre Hopkins has caught a total of 1,151 yards with nine receiving touchdowns.

Beating The Bills

The New York Jets’ six game losing streak ended last week with a 27-23 win over the Buffalo Bills. Rookie quarterback Sam Darnold engineered a 61 yard drive that led to a one yard touchdown run by Elijah McGuire with just over a minute left to play to ice the win for the Jets.

Darnold has completed 175 out of 313 passes this season for a total of 2,104 passing yards with 12 scores and 14 pickoffs. Isaiah Crowell has rushed for 685 yards with six touchdowns scored. Meanwhile, Robby Anderson is averaging 15.9 yards per catch for a total of 492 receiving yards with four touchdowns caught.

Who Wins?

Houston is 9-1 SU in their last 10 games played and 4-1 SU in their last 5 games on the road. New York is 1-6 SU in their last seven games played and are 2-5 SU in their last seven home games. Head to head, the Jets are 5-2 SU in their last seven games played.

Injuries are one of the stories of this game. For the Texans, center Zach Fulton is suffering a hand injury which caused him to miss their last game. Incidentally, Houston’s line yielded five sacks. If Fulton is unable to play, he will be a big loss for the Texans. On the side of the Jets, Darnold is listed as “probable” with a foot injury. Although he is likely playing, Darnold missed three games earlier this season with the same ailment. Isaiah Crowell is also questionable with his own foot issues.

The most probable way that the Jets beat the Texans is through the air with their passing game but with the weather expected to be rainy, Saturday may not be a good day to throw passes. That said, Houston has played its last four games in their climate controlled home field so that could be an issue for them as well. However, if Houston is to win this, they will have to do so with Lamar Miller and Alfred Blue pushing the rush attack. With the Jets allowing 173.7 rush yards in their last three outings, the Texans should get the win under unfavorable weather conditions. We’re picking the Houston Texans to beat the New York Jets on 12/15/18.
