Why Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs Will Win the Super Bowl

Patrick Mahomes has electrified the league this year, and he’s quickly become a frontrunner for this year’s MVP award. While his individual accomplishments have certainly been impressive, he’s managed to captain the Chiefs to the best record in the conference.

Today, I’ll explain why I think Mahomes and the Chiefs will take home the Lombardi trophy this year. Let’s head straight on into it!

Mahomes For MVP – A Dazzling Talent

Looking at the Stats

Patrick Mahomes is having one of the greatest seasons in NFL history. In 14 games at the helm of the Kansas City offense, Mahomes has racked up 4,827 yards and 45 touchdowns. He burst onto the scene with 10 touchdowns in his first 2 games, and he’s continued his blistering form, leading the best offense in the league.

With two games left, it’s unlikely that Mahomes will break Peyton Manning’s single season record of 45 passing touchdowns, but he has a great chance at ending up second on the list, a feat that is incredibly impressive for a quarterback who only took over the starting role this year. Mahomes’ stats are incredibly impressive, and they showcase his incredible talent and success so far this year.

Freakish Athleticism

As the NFL has evolved, the quarterback position has become increasingly mobile. While old-fashioned quarterbacks like Tom Brady can still succeed inside the pocket, more mobile and athletic quarterbacks have come to dominate the scene. Patrick Mahomes might be the most athletic quarterback in the league.

Firstly, Mahomes has one of the strongest arms in the NFL. His passes consistently reach around 50 miles per hour, and that speed allows him to zip the ball into tight spaces and reach his receivers faster. His arm also allows him to heave the ball down the field, a talent which has proven incredibly deadly when combined with Tyreek Hill’s speed.

But where Mahomes truly shines is outside of the pocket. He loves to run the bootleg, and he’s an incredible passer on the run. Even off-balance, Mahomes manages to retain his power and accuracy, and this raw athleticism has made for some great plays so far this season. If you want to see just how athletic Mahomes is, watch this left-handed pass he makes to convert on third down.

Mahomes is an incredible athlete, and he’s one of the most exciting players in the league. If he can build on the fundamentals, his raw talent could make him one of the best quarterbacks to ever play.

Intelligent Plays

While Mahomes is certainly talented, his intelligence and vision has been essential to his success. Unlike other freak athletes like Johnny Manziel, Mahomes has been able to thrive in the NFL thanks to his excellent poise and leadership under center.

Mahomes is an incredibly patient quarterback. He is always calm and collected with the ball, and he rarely tries to force the ball into risky situations, preferring to wait until he has an open target. This patience makes him incredibly difficult to deal with as his arm and athleticism allows him to buy time and make passes that other quarterbacks wouldn’t be able to complete.

But Mahomes’ vision is what truly makes him world-class. He reads defenses incredibly well, and he knows exactly the types of throws he needs to make, executing them to perfection. He gets the ball off faster than almost anyone, making sure that he takes advantage of any opportunity that may arise.

Mahomes has it all. Incredible talent, wicked athleticism, and a football IQ that lets him put all the pieces together. He is one of the most promising talents in quite some time, and he’s shown exactly what he’s capable of so far this season.

Offensive Firepower – No Shortage of Weapons

Tyreek Hill – The Cheetah

Tyreek Hill
Tyreek Hill is one of the most explosive players in the NFL. A track star in college, Hill has used his speed to torch defenses and terrorize opposing defenders. Nicknamed “The Cheetah”, Tyreek Hill has quickly become one of the best receivers in the entire NFL.

Hill had a quick start to his rookie career, displaying his talent both in the receiving game and the returning game. While many viewed Hill as a one-dimensional player who overly relied on his speed, he continued his dominance in the following seasons, and he’s earned respect and praise from his peers.

He’s quick enough to outrun anyone who’s guarding him, and the slightest misstep or hesitation from a defender could result in a big gain or a touchdown. But while Hill is known for his big plays, he has also become a great threat on shorter passes; defenders can never be quite sure of what he’s going to do. Hill is remarkably elusive with the ball in his hands as well; his quickness makes him difficult to tackle, and he’s great at gaining yards after the catch.

Tyreek Hill is one of the league’s best receivers, and he’s proven that he’s truly a complete player. His speed makes him deadly, and if you take your eyes off him for even a moment, he’ll be long gone.

Travis Kelce – Best Tight End In the NFL?

Travis Kelce
Move over, Rob Gronkowski. Travis Kelce is the best tight end in the NFL. Not only does he not face the same injury concerns as Gronk, but Kelce is equally as talented as the New England Patriot. He is an imposing presence on the field, and his receiving ability is second to none. Kelce has quickly emerged as Mahomes’ favorite target, and his hands make him incredibly reliable in high-pressure situations. His large physique means he can barrel over opposing defenders and gain plenty of yards after the catch.

But Kelce’s most potent weapon is his speed. While most big men are relatively slow off the snap, Kelce utilizes his great footwork and natural athleticism to dominate. The combination of strength and speed mean that he’s basically impossible to guard, and it’s just one of the reasons why he’s the best tight end in the league.

Kelce is arguably Kansas City’s greatest weapon, and if the Chiefs ever find themselves in a tough spot, you can be sure as to who Mahomes will be looking for.

Damien Williams – A Hidden Talent

Damien Williams
After the Chiefs cut Kareem Hunt following evidence of domestic abuse, many were wondering who would fill the void at running back. While Spencer Ware was originally the backup, a new star has emerged – Damien Williams.

Damien Williams took over at running back following Ware’s injury, and he had a great game against the Chargers, posting 123 yards and scoring 2 touchdowns. The running back displayed incredible elusiveness and speed, and his performance may very well have secured him the starting spot at the moment.

While it will be difficult for Williams to replicate Hunt’s performances, he’ll still be an incredible weapon for Mahomes to utilize, and he could prove essential should the Chiefs make a deep run into the playoffs.

A Brilliant Coach – Reid At The Helm

Coaching Career – Looking at His Record

Andy Reid first joined the NFL in 1992 as an offensive assistant for the Green Bay Packers. He earned his first head coaching role with the Eagles in 1999, and he moved to Kansas City in 2013. While he may not have won a Super Bowl just yet, he’s had an illustrious career as a head coach, posting a spectacular record of 205-136-1, good for a .601 winning percentage.

Reid is regarded by many as one of the greatest coaches in NFL history and arguably the greatest coach of the modern era (looking at you, Belichick). His record shows just how good he really is, and he’s looking to improve on it with a Super Bowl victory this year.

A Tactical Genius

Andy Reid has revolutionized the game of football. Ever since becoming head coach of the Eagles, Reid has cemented his legacy as a tactical genius, and his strategy and intelligence make him an incredibly difficult head coach to scheme against.

He is primarily focused on the offensive side of things, and his prowess on that side of the field is evident in the way the Chiefs have run their offense thus far this year. He’s a brilliant playcaller, and he isn’t afraid to take risks, even when it might cost his team the game.

But most importantly, Reid has managed to unite his team. He has managed to bring together all the talent and skill at his disposition and create a true team, one that is willing to fight and battle, to work hard to achieve their goals.

Looking Ahead – Super Bowl LIII

With all that being said, the Kansas City Chiefs could very well be this year’s Super Bowl champions. They have all the talent in the world, and their offense is the best in the league. Mahomes is wreaking havoc with his arm and freakish athleticism, and he’s surrounded by some of the best weapons in the NFL. Andy Reid is an excellent coach, and he’s still searching for that first Super Bowl ring.

But most importantly, Kansas City is a true team. They have emerged as a powerhouse in recent years, and together, they’re looking to make their mark in football history. They have everything they need to take home the Lombardi trophy; now, they just need to go out and do it.
