MLB: 2019 World Series Odds

With just over a month to go in the 2019 regular season, the Houston Astros are currently the favorite going into the final stretch at +225 to win the World Series. If they pull it off, it would be their second championship in three years.

After the trade deadline, both the Astros and Los Angeles Dodgers were placed in a tie on top of the odds-board with a +275 mark. However, since then, Houston has gone on a tear and distanced themselves as the leading favorite.

According to online sportsbook Bovada, the Houston Astros are the top favorites at +225, while the Los Angeles Dodgers remain at +275 in the second position in the odds. Coming in third, we have the New York Yankees placed at +450, while the Atlanta Braves fill the No. 4 position at +900. To round out the top five, we have a tie for fifth place between the Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Indians at +1600.

Just Imagine…

At the trade deadline, the New York Mets were placed with whopping +20000 long-shot odds to win the 2019 World Series, and it was perfectly understandable considering how horrendous they were. Well, nearly a month later and the Mets have turned their season around to put themselves into the hunt for the postseason. As a result, they’re placed at +2000 now, which puts them in the top 10 on the odds table. If they make the playoffs, they’ll also have a solid shot of winning the entire thing with a pitching staff that includes Jacob deGrom, Noah Syndergaard and Marcus Stroman. Easily, this team could win a best-of-five first round matchup

With that being said:

Just imagine if you placed at bet on them just a month ago when they were placed at +20000. Lord have mercy, I envy the betters who took that wager, and I’m sure there are some hardcore Mets fans out there that have, especially with how popular gambling is in the New York area — lucky.

Beantown Repeat?

For the vast majority of the season, most pundits expected general manager Dave Dombrowski and the Boston Red Sox to eventually improve their bullpen before the trade deadline passed. Well, we’ve gotten to that point and Boston did absolutely nothing to fix their problems in the pen.

As far as their hitting is concerned, the Red Sox have zero issues there with them having one of the best lineups in the game. On top of that, they also have a solid starting pitching rotation to go along with it. With the problems in the bullpen, however, and the team consistently struggling throughout the entire season, it’s looking like a repeat is unlikely for the Boston Red Sox.

Right now, Boston sits with +4000 odds, the most hefty that they’ve had in recent history. Even though I don’t think a repeat will happen, they would still be a solid pick to ride with. They’re still in competition with both the Tampa Bay Rays and Oakland Athletics for a wild card position in the playoffs. If they are in the postseason, this is still the Red Sox that we’re talking about, so they’ll surely be a threat to win the title — which is always a thing for Boston no matter how their regular season goes.

You Can Always Take a Chance On…

…the St. Louis Cardinals. No matter how the Cards perform in a season, it always seems that they’re in the mix to be in the playoffs and claim the world championship. 2019 is no different. Currently one of the streakiest clubs in Major League Baseball, St. Louis has put themselves into championship warfare with the Chicago Cubs for the NL Central division. As far as the World Series is concerned, the Los Angeles Dodgers are the team to beat in the National League, but the Cardinals can surely give them a run for their money in a playoff series.

The hitting for St. Louis is still progressing with their hitting, but their pitching has been absolutely amazing in the second half being among the leaders in each pitching statistical category. Placed at +2000, there’s certainly plenty of value to place a long-shot bet on the St. Louis Cardinals.

Movin’ on Up: Atlanta Braves and Minnesota Twins

Out of all of the division leaders, the Atlanta Braves and Minnesota Twins have the heaviest odds to win the 2019 World Series — the Braves sit at +900, while the Twins are placed at +1800. With the Houston Astros at +225, that makes both teams extremely profitable to place a wager on, so I’d go ahead and take advantage of that, especially with the Atlanta Braves. I’m seeing some magic there come October.

As far as the Twins are concerned, they were scorching hot to start out the season, but their performance would slow a bit when we would arrive in the middle of the season. As of late, however, Minnesota has been warming things back up again. The problem is, the Cleveland Indians are hanging tight with them for the AL Central championship, but the Twins are pushing to distance their lead.

Let’s go over the top betting favorites to win the 2019 World Series with just a month until October, and you can also find the full list of odds down below.

Betting Favorites to Win the 2019 World Series

Houston Astros

  • Current Odds: +225
  • Opening Odds: +700

The Houston Astros have been absolutely magnificent at home this season at 49-16, which has led them to an overall 85-47 regular-season record. They aren’t the best on the road with a near-.500 record of 36-31, but that won’t matter if the Astros can clinch homefield advantage throughout the entire playoffs. The only team ahead of them in the American League is the New York Yankees, and Houston is just a 0.5 game behind. It’s the same exact situation in the National League with the Los Angeles Dodgers. If the Astros can outlast them to take the best record in Major League Baseball, they’ll be sitting pretty to win the 2019 World Series.

Los Angeles Dodgers

  • Current Odds: +275
  • Opening Odds: +800

Sitting in the exact same spot as the Houston Astros, the Los Angeles Dodgers have been absolutely magnificent at home this season putting up an elite record of 52-18 en route to an overall 86-47 record. However, they’re a bit on the weaker side when it comes to their mark on the road — they tally at 34-29. It looks like this year’s World Series may depend on homefield advantage, but at the same time, you have other clubs such as the Atlanta Braves and Minnesota Twins who have outstanding away records. As far as the Dodgers are concerned though, it’s the same thing as the Astros: If they grab MLB’s best record, they should be pretty much in a third straight World Series. As far as winning it, however, they’ll have to prove that to me after going 0-for-2.

New York Yankees

  • Current Odds: +450
  • Opening Odds: +800

Here is why I have to bet on the New York Yankees as my 2019 World Series champions: They’re a very well balanced team. Not only do they have a superior 86-47 regular-season record at the moment — which is tied for the best in baseball with the Los Angeles Dodgers — but the Yankees have accomplished this with solid records both at home and on the road. In the Bronx, they place themselves with an elite 49-20 record, while they tally at 37-27 away from Yankee Stadium. It seems to be that no matter where you play New York, you’re going to have a hard time achieving a victory, and with the weaponry to win it all, that’s why I’m betting on them to do that exact thing.

Atlanta Braves

  • Current Odds: +900
  • Opening Odds: +1400

Though obviously not as elite, and not far behind the New York Yankees at that, the Atlanta Braves are in a very similar situation as the Bronx Bombers. En route to an 80-53 regular-season tally that has given them a 5.5 game lead for the NL East lead, they’ve put up very productive records in both Atlanta and on the road. In other words, this is a team that can do damage no matter where you play them. In fact, you’ll even see they’re better on the road, which will do wonders for the Braves come October — they’re 39-27 in Atlanta, while sitting at a dominant 41-26 record on the road. Keep an eye on the Atlanta Braves come playoff time, they’ll be scary for any opposition to face off against.

Chicago Cubs

  • Current Odds: +1600
  • Opening Odds: +900

Despite sitting in second place in the NL Central behind the St. Louis Cardinals, the Chicago Cubs actually place themselves in a tie with the Cleveland Indians with the fifth-highest odds to win the 2019 World Series. I’m assuming that the reason why the Cubs are listed this high on the odds table is because of their championship in 2016, because I don’t have faith in the 2019 edition of this team to win it all. Granted, they’re great at home doubling their loss total with a 44-22 mark, but look at their road record: Just a dismal 25-39, and I don’t see that going well in the playoffs at all. Pass on the Chicago Cubs, kids.

Cleveland Indians

  • Current Odds: +1600
  • Opening Odds: +1200

Placed at +1600 odds, the Cleveland Indians would be a fantastic pick to ride with for a long shot pick. Similar to that of the previously-mentioned New York Yankees and Atlanta Braves, the Cleveland Indians have put in work both at home and on the road. At Progressive Field, they’ve put up a flashy 41-27 record, while also recording an effective 35-28 record away from Cleveland. They’ll have to step up their game if they hope to catch up to the Minnesota Twins for the AL Central title though, they’ve only won four out of their last 10 games — the Twins have won seven out of their last 10.
