New York Giants vs Philadelphia Eagles 10/22/2020 – NFL Betting Odds and Preview

The New York Giants head to the City of Brotherly Love to take on the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday night. The Giants are 1-5 on the season and they are looking for their first road win in four tries. Likewise, the 1-4-1 Eagles will be aiming to pick up their first home win in four attempts. While both teams have only one win after six weeks, it’s not really time to panic yet because these teams are in the NFC East where the division leaders Dallas Cowboys are 2-4.

Philadelphia beat New York in their two meetings last season, winning 23-17 at home as 9.5 points favorites, and 34-17 on the road as four-point favorites.

New York Giants

The New York Giants finally got their first win of the season in week 6 as they defeated the Washington Football team 20-19. The Giants’ defense came up big as they forced an incomplete pass by Kyle Allen as Washington went for the two-point conversion to win the game. With the win, the 1-5 Giants are in third place in the crazy NFC East division.

Daniel Jones completed 12 of 19 passes for 112 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Jones is completing 61.2% of his passes and he has passed for 1,223 yards with three scores and six interceptions. He also led the Giants with 74 rushing yards on seven carries while Devonta Freeman had 61 yards on 18 carries. Golden Tate has 19 catches on the season while Darius Slayton and Evan Engram have combined for 583 receiving yards and three scores.

New York is without star running back Saquon Barkley who went down with an ACL injury in Week 2. The Giants are 31st in rushing at only 76.2 rushing yards per game and dead last in offense at 298.8 yards of total offense per game.

Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles made the playoffs in the previous three seasons but this year has been a struggle. Philadelphia is 1-4-1 on the year and is playing way below expectations. They covered the spread in their last game but fell to the Baltimore Ravens by a score of 30-28. Philadelphia rallied from a 24-6 deficit but came up short as the Ravens ran out the clock.

Carson Wentz threw for 213 yards on 21 of 40 passing with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Wentz was sacked six times in the game for a total loss of 42 yards. Wentz is completing 58.7% of his passes and has eight touchdowns and nine interceptions. Miles Sanders rushed for 118 yards while Travis Fulgham had six catches for 175 yards with one touchdown. Sanders has a total of 434 rushing yards this season while Fulgham and Greg Ward have combined for 475 receiving yards and five touchdowns.

Star left guard Brandon Brooks tore his Achilles before training camp while left tackle Andre Dillard is out with a season-ending biceps injury. Their offensive line issues have led Philadelphia to a league-worst 4.2 sacks allowed per game this season. The offense has averaged six sacks given up per game in their last three games.

Who Wins?

The Giants are 1-6 SU in their last seven games played. New York is 0-3 SU in three road games played this season. Philadelphia is 1-5-1 SU in their last seven games played. The Eagles are 0-2-1 in their three home games played this season and 4-1 SU in their last five games against the NFC East division. Head to head, the Eagles are 9-1 SU in their last 10 games played against the Giants. Philly is also 6-0 SU in their last six games played against New York.

The Giants earned their first win of the season the last time out, beating the Washington Football team 20-19. Despite the win, they were outgained 337-240 in total yards and were beaten in first downs 24-16. The Giants are 4-9 SU in their last 13 games after a win. They also have lost their last six games as the betting underdogs. C.J. Board and Darius Slayton were reported on the team’s injured list and could miss this game.

The Eagles have a very banged up roster with only Carson Wentz and Jason Kelce as the only healthy players on top of the Eagles’ depth chart. Philly lost Mike Sanders and Zach Ertz during the loss to the Ravens and they will be out for several weeks. Despite their injury woes, the Eagles rallied from a 24-6 fourth-quarter deficit but ultimately came short against the Ravens.

This won’t be a far trip for the Giants but the Eagles should have more time to prepare being the home team. The Knicks might come out flat after pulling off their first win of the season the last time out. The Eagles are depleted but I think they are still the team that is playing better.

Prediction: Philadelphia Eagles

Other Bets To Make

The Giants are 3-3 ATS in six games played this season. New York is 6-0 ATS in their last six games played on the road. The Eagles are 2-5 ATS in their last seven games played. Philly is 1-2 ATS in three home games played this season and 11-5 ATS in their last 16 October games. Head to head, these teams have split their last five meetings against the spread but the Giants are 2-1 ATS in their last three.

  • Spread Odds: Giants +4.5 (-108), Eagles -4.5 (-112)
  • Odds from BetOnline as of 10/21/2020

The Giants have covered the spread in their three road games this season and they have been competitive in their games played this year. Five of New York’s six games have been decided by 10 or fewer points. The Eagles only have one win this season but this is a team that went toe to toe with the Steelers and Ravens in consecutive wins. I won’t blame you if you don’t trust the Eagles but they are the better team and are playing better right now. I’ll give away points for as long as it doesn’t go beyond a touchdown.

Prediction: Eagles -4.5

The total has gone under in four out of the last six games played by the Giants. The under is 2-1 in New York’s last three games played on the road. The Giants have seen the total go under in six out of their last nine October games. The total has gone over in four out of the last six games played by the Eagles. The under is 8-2 in their last 10 games played at home. Philadelphia has seen the total hit under in five out of their last six Week 7 games played. Head to head, the total has gone over in seven out of the last 10 meetings between these two teams.

  • Over/Under Odds: Over 43.5 (-110), Under 43.5 (-110)
  • Odds from BetOnline as of 10/21/2020

The Giants are last in the league in total offense and are next to the bottom in scoring at only 16.8 points per contest. Philly is putting up just 23.5 points per game but is ranked 27th in total offense. The Eagles also have the worst pass protection in the league and they are up against a Giants team that ranks 10th overall in rush and pass defense. Philadelphia is also a good defensive team at no.10 in the NFL in total yards allowed. I like this teams to hit the under.

Prediction: Under 43.5
